Sarah Palin: Chris Christie’s ‘Rookie Mistake’ Calling Gingrich An Embarrassment

In an interview with Fox Business Network, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin said that Chris Christie made a “rookie mistake” when he said that Newt Gingrich was an embarrassment to the party. She also said that Christie had his “panties in a wad” because his candidate lost. Clearly drawing a line in the sand between Romney and Gingrich surrogates. While Palin hasn’t officially endorsed Gingrich, it’s only a matter of time.

When asked about Christie’s comments about Newt being an embarrassment she said:

“I do care to take him to task — poor Chris. This was a rookie mistake. He played right into the media’s hands. Here’s a host that asked Chris, ‘Does Newt embarrass the party.’ I think he asked him twice, and there Chris played right into it and spewed that about Newt embarrassing the party. Sometimes if your candidate loses in just one step along this path, as was the case when Romney lost to Newt the other night and of course, Romney is Chris Christie’s guy, you kind of get your panties in a wad and you may say things that you regret later. And I think that that’s what Chris Christie did. His response to what the media was asking him was reflective of a lack of self-discipline. I’ve learned my lessons all along the way, too, and not responding, not playing into the media’s hands when they’re trying to get you to say something like is this candidate an embarrassment to your party?”

Believe it or not, I’ve got to side with the New York Daily News on this one. Palin fails to see the irony in any of her comments. Unbelievable.

I’m a little miffed by this statement. Rookie mistake? I’m not really sure at this stage in the game you could call Christie a rookie. And what’s more, Christie said exactly what he meant to say, he wasn’t coaxed into a trap by the media. Furthermore, Newt does have issues that could prove embarrassing in the general election with Obama. I can honestly say, unlike Governor Palin, I wouldn’t be proud to have Newt Gingrich as my nominee.

Palin further trounced Christie for giving the left ammo for future ads if Newt eventually becomes the nominee. Really? He gave them ammo by saying that Newt is an embarrassment? It looks to me like Newt has given all of his critics ammo to use against him all on his own by his past actions, public and private. And of course if Romney becomes the nominee, the left will need to send Gingrich and Rick Perry a nice big thank you note for their attacks on Bain Capital and capitalism in general.

I’ve got to tell you, I’m pretty much embarrassed by this whole freaking display. I’m embarrassed by Gingrich, Romney, Palin, Christie, all of them. All. Of. Them. There’s a perfect, weak, target sitting in the Oval Office and these guys are taking shots at each other as if there’s no tomorrow. I’m over it. This circular firing squad that this primary season has turned into helps no one. Strike that. It helps Obama. Not everyone seems to see that.
