Approximately 100 individuals were detained at a pro-Palestinian protest on the Boston campus of Northeastern University. The university stated that the protest had been infiltrated by professional organizers with no affiliation to the school, and that an antisemitic slur, including “Kill the Jews,” was allegedly used during the protest.
Students who were able to produce a valid Northeastern ID were released, while those who refused to disclose their affiliation were arrested. The student organization behind the protest, HFP, criticized the administration’s statement as false narratives.
HFP is demanding that the university disclose its financial investments, divest from Israeli companies, and denounce Israel’s actions in Palestine. Similar protests for Palestinian human rights have taken place at other universities in the U.S. and Canada, with activities at Arizona State University and Indiana University resulting in arrests for setting up encampments and violating school policy.
