Maryland Gov. Wes Moore Responds to Pollution Leaks After Key Bridge Collapse
Maryland Governor Wes Moore has taken swift action in response to pollution leaks following the collapse of the Key Bridge. More than 2,400 feet of boom have been deployed to contain the pollution, with Gov. Moore personally assessing the situation on site.
Fortunately, Gov. Moore reported that he did not see any sheen on the water, providing some relief in the wake of the environmental disaster. However, the situation remains dire as 56 containers with hazardous materials were found on the Dali cargo vessel, which was involved in the incident.
According to Coast Guard Rear Adm. Shannon Gilreath, 14 containers on the ship were impacted, potentially releasing hazardous items like soap and perfume. It is still unclear whether any of these materials went overboard and further contaminated the surrounding area.
To monitor any potential threats to the environment and public health, air monitors have been put in place. So far, no concerning readings have been detected, reassuring residents that the situation is being closely monitored and managed by authorities.
As the investigation and cleanup efforts continue, Gov. Moore and his team are working tirelessly to contain the pollution leaks and prevent any further harm to the environment. Stay tuned to Poh Diaries for more updates on this developing story.
