Residents in the Lansing area are in for a celestial treat on April 8 as they will have the opportunity to witness a partial solar eclipse with clear skies and mild temperatures. Meteorologist Nathan Jeruzal from the National Weather Service has forecasted favorable weather conditions for southeast lower Michigan, with temperatures expected to be in the 50s and 60s during the eclipse.
The entire state of Michigan will have a chance to experience the eclipse under similar weather patterns, but Lansing residents will have a particularly good view. The eclipse is set to begin at 2 p.m., reach its maximum at 3:12 p.m., and end around 4:25 p.m. Although it will not be a total eclipse in Lansing, there will be a 96-97% coverage with a visible crescent of sunlight.
Some officials have made plans to travel to areas where they can witness totality, while others will opt to stay in the Lansing area. Jeruzal himself is looking forward to the unique phenomenon, having experienced the 2017 eclipse.
