Israeli Settlers Attack Palestinian Villages in the West Bank Following Discovery of Missing Israeli Teen’s Body
Tensions escalated in the West Bank as Israeli settlers went on a rampage against Palestinians after the body of a missing Israeli teen, Binyamin Achimair, was found following a “terrorist attack.” The incident sparked violent confrontations, with dozens of people injured in clashes where shots were fired and rocks were thrown.
Several companies with the defense forces were deployed to the area to quell the violence, which left Palestinian villages in disarray. Palestinian Jehad Abu Alia was killed, and 25 others were wounded in an attack in al-Mughayyir village. In a separate incident, Israeli settlers burned homes and cars in the village, injuring three people. In the nearby village of Douma, around 15 homes and 10 farms were also set on fire.
Israeli Defense Minister urged people not to take the law into their own hands, emphasizing the need for peaceful resolution. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the killing of the Israeli teen but did not comment on the attacks carried out by settlers.
The international community has long considered all West Bank settlements illegal and obstacles to peace. The ongoing violence in the region has only heightened tensions since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, leading to more than 460 Palestinians being killed by Israeli fire in the West Bank.
Despite the incidents, the Israeli military remained silent on the attacks carried out by settlers. The aftermath of these violent clashes serves as a grim reminder of the deep-rooted conflict in the region and the urgent need for a peaceful resolution.
