The Biden administration is set to provide a new aid package to Ukraine, including long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), worth approximately $1 billion. The Senate has passed the legislation, now awaiting Biden’s signature.
Ukrainian officials have been requesting these missiles to target further into Russian territory. US officials have described the situation in Ukraine as dire, emphasizing the urgent need for support. CIA Director Bill Burns warned of Ukraine losing the war without US assistance, while EUCOM commander Gen. Chris Cavoli highlighted Russia’s superiority in munitions and equipment.
The aid package will also include air defense systems, artillery ammunition, Bradley fighting vehicles, and demolition weaponry. This aid will be sourced from US military stockpiles through presidential drawdown authority, marking the first such package for Ukraine since March.
The White House is prepared to swiftly send military aid to Ukraine once the funding passes the Senate and is signed into law. US European Command is working to process the weaponry efficiently for transfer. Celeste Wallander, assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs, mentioned that aid transfers could begin within a week or two after the legislation’s passage.
This new aid package signifies US commitment to supporting Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression, providing crucial resources to bolster their capabilities on the battlefield. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing situation on Poh Diaries.
