Former Arkansas and NFL running back Alex Collins tragically lost his life in a motorcycle crash in South Florida. The incident took place on Oakland Park Boulevard in Lauderdale Lakes when Collins collided with a turning Chevrolet Suburban while riding his motorcycle. The impact of the collision sent Collins through the rear passenger-side window of the SUV and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Collins, a standout athlete who graduated from South Plantation High School, went on to have a remarkable career as a running back for the Arkansas Razorbacks. During his time at Arkansas, he amassed an impressive 3,703 rushing yards and scored 36 touchdowns. His accomplishments on the field earned him the second spot on Arkansas’ all-time rushing yards list, surpassed only by Darren McFadden.
After his successful college career, Collins was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He subsequently played for both the Seahawks and the Baltimore Ravens before returning to the Seahawks in 2020. Most recently, Collins was a member of the Memphis Showboats in the United States Football League.
This tragic motorcycle crash is the second loss of a former Arkansas player in Florida this summer. In June, former Arkansas and NFL quarterback Ryan Mallett drowned, adding to the grief felt by the Arkansas community.
The passing of Alex Collins has left a void in the hearts of football enthusiasts and supporters alike. His talent and passion on the field will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.
