Apple’s Highly Anticipated Mixed-Reality Headset, Vision Pro, Set to Launch in March 2024
Tech enthusiasts and Apple fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of Apple’s mixed-reality headset, and the wait is almost over. According to recent reports, Apple plans to unveil its highly anticipated device, known as Vision Pro, in March 2024. However, the state-of-the-art headset comes with a hefty price tag of $3,500, making it out of reach for many consumers.
The current-generation Vision Pro boasts a MicroOLED screen with a white backlight and color filter. However, Apple is aiming to improve the brightness and color luminance in the next-generation device by switching to an RGB OLEDoS screen technology. This switch is expected to enhance the overall visual experience for users.
One major challenge Apple faces is the low production capacity for MicroOLED panels with color filters. Samsung Display, which recently acquired eMagin, the only US-based firm producing RGB OLEDoS panels, is actively preparing to expand its production capacities. This move by Samsung Display indicates their commitment to supporting Apple’s demands and meeting the increasing demand for these advanced panels.
As for the specifications of the current-generation Vision Pro, it features a 1.42-inch OLEDoS screen with an impressive resolution of 3,648 x 3,144 pixels and a pixel density of 3,391ppi. Such high resolution and pixel density are expected to provide users with an immersive and lifelike visual experience.
Additionally, the outer screen of the Vision Pro utilizes an OLED panel from LG Display. This secondary screen has a resolution of 800 x 360 pixels and a pixel density of 145ppi. While not as high-resolution as the main screen, it still serves as a useful tool for quick and convenient interactions with the headset.
Apple’s mixed-reality headset, Vision Pro, is set to revolutionize the way we interact with technology. With its impressive specifications and state-of-the-art features, it promises to provide users with a truly immersive and unique visual experience. However, with its high price tag, the device may not be accessible to everyone. Nonetheless, anticipation remains high as the launch date approaches, and technology enthusiasts eagerly await the opportunity to experience Apple’s latest innovation firsthand.
