A former Oriole, Ty Blach, proved to be a dominant force on the mound for Colorado, holding the Baltimore hitters off balance for an impressive seven innings. Despite the challenges, Orioles’ starter Jack Flaherty showed resilience and kept the team in the game.
The fourth inning presented the Orioles with a golden opportunity to score, as they loaded the bases. However, their efforts were fruitless as they ultimately hit into a double play, leaving them frustrated and unable to capitalize on the scoring opportunity.
Flaherty was unable to deter the Rockies’ offense, as they managed to tally runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Nonetheless, Flaherty’s performance overall was commendable, especially considering his previous arm soreness concerns.
Baltimore’s offense came to life when the Rockies went to their bullpen, culminating in O’Hearn’s game-tying homer. Making his first appearance since June 13, Austin Voth contributed two scoreless innings for the Orioles, providing a glimmer of hope.
However, the Rockies refused to be denied and ultimately sealed the victory, closing out the game in the ninth inning.
This defeat prevented the Orioles from sweeping the series and cost them a valuable game in the highly competitive AL East standings. The team now faces the task of rebounding in their upcoming game against the White Sox, with Grayson Rodriguez set to take the mound.
