The White House Faces Backlash for Supporting Transgender Rights on Easter
The White House has come under fire from top Republicans for issuing a proclamation in support of transgender people on the same day as Easter. President Biden’s spokesperson defended the move, stating that the message was in line with the president’s commitment to inclusivity and upholding the dignity of all Americans.
Critics, including Speaker Mike Johnson, former President Trump, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Sen. Tim Scott, accused Biden of betraying Easter by proclaiming it as ‘Transgender Day’. However, Biden has been issuing a proclamation marking March 31 as the Transgender Day of Visibility every year since taking office.
The American Egg Board, which partners with the White House for the annual Easter Egg Roll, follows federal guidelines that prohibit favoring a religion in the event. This includes restrictions on religious symbols or overtly religious themes, in order to maintain a neutral and inclusive environment.
Supporters of Biden, such as Senator Raphael Warnock, have countered the attacks, calling them divisive and contrary to the core values of the Christian faith. The accusations against Biden also include claims of banning religious depictions in an egg art contest at the White House, which the American Egg Board has refuted as consistent with guidelines from previous administrations.
As the debate continues to unfold, the White House remains steadfast in its support for transgender rights and its commitment to creating a more inclusive society for all Americans.
