As the holy month of Ramadan continues in Gaza, many families are facing immense difficulties due to the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in the region. Hussein Owda, like many others, is struggling to observe Ramadan as the traditional time of joy and celebration has been overshadowed by the scarcity of food, destroyed homes, and missing family members.
Salem Sbeta and his family used to enjoy traditional meals and decorate their home for Ramadan, but now they find themselves relying on makeshift tents and struggling to find enough food to eat. The cost of food has skyrocketed, making it nearly impossible for families like the Sbetas to provide for their loved ones. Some have even resorted to foraging for wild plants or going without food altogether.
The situation is dire, with more than half a million Gaza residents facing starvation and limited aid reaching the enclave. The World Food Programme has issued a warning of imminent famine in northern Gaza, with high rates of malnutrition among young children. Despite the challenges, Muslims in Gaza, such as Mahmoud Almadhoun, are trying to help others by running soup kitchens to feed the hungry.
Even in the face of such hardships, the people in Gaza are determined to observe Ramadan and strengthen their connection to God during this time of profound difficulty. However, it is clear that the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis are taking a heavy toll on the people of Gaza during this holy month.
